“Hardships often prepare an ordinary person for an extraordinary destiny” Christopher Markus. This life experience as articulated by Markus epitomizes the path for Antoine Johnson who was born on June 7, 2005, at the Savanna-La-Mar Hospital. His educational journey commenced at the Mint Road Early Childhood Institution in his hometown of Grange Hill, Westmoreland. The formative years spent at this institution cultivated a resilient mindset and contributed to his character development. Owing to his exceptional academic abilities, he entered Grange Hill Primary School a year ahead of schedule in 2010, where his leadership skills and involvement flourished. He served as a prefect in grade five and later advanced to the prestigious position of Head Boy in grade six. Additionally, he represented the school in reading competitions at the parish level.
Upon graduating from primary school in 2021, Antoine embarked on his high school education at The Manning’s School, the crème de la crème of Westmoreland. While at Manning’s, Antoine’s engagement extended to various clubs and societies, including the Interact Club, Leo Club, Environmental Club, Science Club, Chess Club, and Quiz Club. Despite his active participation, he maintained an excellent academic record and graduated in 2016, having achieved success in 10 CSEC subjects, thus concluding the initial phase of his high school journey.
With this success, Antoine transitioned directly to sixth form to further enrich his knowledge in the field of Sciences. This new educational phase provided him with increased opportunities for involvement within the school community. He was elected as the first Vice-President of the Interact Club, assumed the role of Mathematics Tutor for the Student Council Society, and became an active member of the school’s SPIRIT Committee.
As Antoine embarks on his university journey, his aspirations lie in pursuing a career in Environmental Safety and Health. His goal is to become a Health and Safety Specialist, aiming to effect transformative change in society by fostering healthier, safer, and more sustainable workplaces and communities for all.
